Powering Africa's Industrial Transformation: Energy Systems for Value Addition and Competitiveness
Africa possesses a unique combination of mineral wealth and renewable energy potential that positions it to become a global hub for value addition, industrialisation, and clean energy innovation. Countries such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique, and Madagascar anchor global critical mineral supply chains, while emerging initiatives in Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Namibia reflect continental commitment to domestic processing and beneficiation.
Yet, industrial ambitions confront a persistent energy paradox: mineral processing, smelting, and advanced manufacturing require reliable, affordable, large-scale electricity in systems already constrained by access deficits, infrastructure gaps, high industrial tariffs, and utility financial fragility. Without deliberate energy planning, industrial policies risk remaining aspirational rather than transformative.
Conference Structure
FEC 2026 is structured around three broad categories: plenary sessions, side events, and exhibitions over two days. The plenary sessions are interspersed with keynote speeches, paper presentations, expert submissions, and panel sessions on issues focused on the theme.
