Future-Proofing African Mining, Today!
The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) was established to drive alternative and innovative policy solutions through high-quality research, analysis, and advocacy in Africa’s energy and extractives sector. Our work bridges research evidence and advocacy to enhance transparency and accountability in sector governance.
Our focus spans revenue governance, contract governance, climate change and energy transition, diversity, equity and inclusion, corporate transparency, and institutional development.
As the world gathers to explore Future-Proofing African Mining Today, ACEP is excited to bring its expertise, innovation, and vision to the global conversation on transforming Africa’s mining and energy landscapes.

The climate imperative - Prioritising a continental just energy transition
Intergovernmental Summit Track 1
- Across Africa, the energy transition is a key opportunity for the continent to fully industrialise. How are policymakers seizing this initiative to pursue their own energy ambitions through mining?
- How can Africa take advantage of the energy transition to enhance mineral value-chains and green industrialisation, whilst also increasing local beneficiation?
- As more foreign environmental legislation imposes greater limits on heavy industrial sectors, are external stakeholders setting a standard that disregards the African development imperative?
ACEP is pleased to be part of this critical discussion on Africa’s just energy transition, mineral value chains, and green industrialization. Join us as we engage with industry leaders and policymakers to explore strategies for maximizing Africa’s mineral wealth, fostering local beneficiation, and ensuring an inclusive and sustainable energy future.

Financing Africa’s Transition Minerals: Unlocking Value Chains for Sustainable Growth
High-Level Dialogue
As the global demand for transition minerals continues to rise, Africa has a unique opportunity to position itself as a key player in the energy transition. Unlocking the full economic potential of these resources requires strategic financing, policy reforms, and collaboration across industries and governments.
On the sidelines of the Africa Mining Indaba 2025, the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI), the Minerals Commission of Ghana, and the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) are hosting a high-level dialogue to explore innovative financing and technical mechanisms to ensure the equitable and sustainable utilization of Africa’s transition minerals.
The dialogue will focus on strengthening mineral value chains, fostering in-country value addition, and promoting cross-country collaboration. Additionally, the discussion will examine policy and investment reforms needed to attract private sector engagement, drive industry growth, and create an enabling environment for responsible development, all while integrating strong environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.
Date: Thursday, 6th February, 2025
Time: 9.00 - 4.30pm SAST (7.00 - 2.30 GMT)

The Africa Mining Vision and Africa Minerals Governance Framework – Are Governments on the Right Track?
Webinar
Africa holds vast mineral wealth, yet challenges in governance and equitable resource utilization persist. The Africa Mining Vision (AMV) was established in 2009 to promote sustainable, broad-based development, but implementation remains inconsistent. Only four countries have ratified the Africa Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) statute, far from the required 15 for full operationalization.
This webinar, hosted by ACEP and partners, aims to revitalize discussions on the AMV and its governance framework. It will feature a technical review synthesis, best practices from implementing countries, and policy recommendations to strengthen adoption. The session targets CSOs, community groups, women’s organizations, think tanks, and youth, encouraging advocacy for stronger national implementation, corporate accountability, and AMDC ratification.
