National Dialogue on the future of Ghana’s Gas Sector
- March 25, 2022

No CommentsNatural gas has become an important fuel source for power generation and some industrial activity in Ghana. In the past decade, Ghana has converted all but one of its thermal generation plants from expensive and heavy-polluting liquid fuels to natural gas, which is considered as a transition fuel. The switch to gas has been occasioned by a set of actions, albeit delayed, to optimize domestic gas from the Sankofa Gye-Nyame field including reverse flow of gas from the West to the Eastern power corridor of the country and accompanying infrastructure development. The relative stability of gas supply from Nigeria has also provided a supply buffer in recent times.

Stakeholder Engagement On Resources Flow To Mining Districts In Ghana
- February 15, 2021
- Posted by: acepghana
- Categories:
Mining communities generally face socioeconomic challenges that require active, stable and efficient revenue sources to address. These socioeconomic challenges include pressure on infrastructure, employment and environment and social vices that need to be mitigated with financing. The delays and partial disbursement of funds deepen the pressure and affect the delivery of planned development programs. Therefore, the need to assess the impacts of such policies on the finances of MMDAs is opportune.
The stakeholder engagement, which is virtual, will have participants drawn from relevant government institutions and mining communities. The discussions will deepen the knowledge on the funding challenges facing MMDA’s in implementing development plans and provide policy options to address these challenges.
