Climate change poses an existential threat to people’s social, economic, and environmental well-being worldwide, with Africa, particularly Ghana, being disproportionately affected. This vulnerability manifests in rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall patterns, and the increased frequency of extreme weather events, all threatening communities’ livelihoods, health, and socio-economic stability. The situation is exacerbated by limited adaptation and mitigation resources, underscoring the urgent need for practical, impactful solutions.
The role of the academic and research community is pivotal in this regard, as they generate valuable knowledge and develop innovative solutions which can shape the policies necessary to combat climate risks effectively. Researchers and academics bring forward diverse perspectives, foster public awareness, and bridge the gap between theoretical research and actionable solutions that can be directly implemented within communities. Recognising the importance of this contribution, the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), with support from Oxfam in Ghana, is convening a conference focused on exploring climate action strategies and gender-responsive green solutions for Ghana.
