The Future of Energy Conference (FEC) assembles stakeholders within and outside the energy industry across Africa and beyond to deliberate on efficient and effective approaches to foster sustainable and inclusive development towards the energy future. The discourse focuses on the continent’s view of the energy transition, examining the potential risks and identifying solutions that drive economic beneficiation.

 

FEC 2024 extends beyond plenary sessions, providing a dynamic platform for side events and exhibitions. These additional avenues for engagement showcase innovative solutions and offer opportunities for networking and collaboration.

 

We invite businesses, civil society organizations, and energy sector entities to register and apply to host side events. Participants are also encouraged to explore the exhibition space to discover the latest advancements in energy technology and ideas. Join us in shaping Africa’s energy future!

This theme will explore avenues for mobilizing financial resources to support Africa’s energy transition. Discussions will revolve around innovative financing mechanisms and mechanism to address unfair roadblocks in the global financial architecture.

 

Discussions under this theme will cover the strategies for ensuring a fair transition for workers in the fossil fuel industry, as well as measures to support the economic diversification of regions dependent on oil and gas revenues. The theme also covers the risks and opportunities of the energy transition in oil-producing African countries.

While renewable energy plays a crucial role in expanding energy access, this theme would also consider the role of oil and gas in addressing energy poverty. Discussions will include improving access to clean cooking fuels, such as natural gas, as well as the role of oil and gas in providing reliable electricity to underserved communities.

In addition to addressing technological gaps in renewable energy, this theme will also consider innovation within the oil and gas sector. Topics will include advancements in clean technologies for oil and gas extraction, such as carbon capture and storage (CCS), as well as research into renewable-based alternatives to traditional fossil fuels.

This theme will focus on measures to develop a skilled workforce capable to navigate the complexities of the energy transition. As a continent with a largely youthful population, young people will play a critical role in driving the transition towards a net-zero carbon economy.

Conference Structure

FEC 2024 will host plenary sessions with keynote speeches, paper presentations, and panel discussions focusing on the conference theme. Following the plenaries, participants can attend side events and explore exhibitions. These sessions aim to discuss policy alternatives and critical measures for stakeholders to engage in the transition economy, considering local contexts and opportunities for intra-continental trade. While primarily in-person, online participation options will be available for inclusivity.
