Ghana’s Debt Crisis: Examining the Drivers of Debt and the Impacts of Domestic Debt Restructuring

Ghana’s macroeconomic instability may be addressed in the short to medium term through an IMF program, with debt restructuring being pursued by the government as part of the current engagements. However, with this being the country’s 17th IMF program, concerns have been raised about the possibility of an 18th program and the impact of debt restructuring on individuals and financial institutions.

This summit assembles experts to examine evidence of the drivers of Ghana’s public debt and the impact of debt restructuring and propose governance pathways for Ghana’s debt sustainability.
