The past year has brought both progress and significant challenges for Africa’s energy and extractive sectors. Across the continent, governments and citizens continue to confront complex fiscal, environmental, and governance issues that test institutional resilience and demand innovative responses. These developments underscore the need for responsible management of natural resources to ensure they support equitable and sustainable development.
The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) remains steadfast in promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in the governance of Africa’s energy and extractive resources. Over the year, our work has exposed key governance gaps, elevated citizen voices, and supported policy reforms that prioritise the public interest. Through research, advocacy, and partnerships, ACEP continues to influence reforms that strengthen the sector.
This report reflects the dedication of ACEP’s team and partners, as well as the collective efforts of civil society, government institutions, and communities committed to the transformative potential of Africa’s resources. We take pride in expanding civic space, nurturing emerging resource governance leaders, and advancing advocacy for climate action and a fair energy transition.
Looking ahead, we recognise that aligning Africa’s resource wealth with the aspirations of its people requires deeper collaboration, renewed commitment, and bold leadership. Achieving this vision demands a united effort to build systems that deliver prosperity, justice, and dignity for all.
