SPE Ghana, in partnership with Eco-Africa, Petroleum Hub Development Corporation, and Africa Centre for Energy Policy, is proud to announce a groundbreaking Pre-COP 28 technical workshop: “Sustainable Path to Net-Zero; the African Way.
ABSTRACT
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is a Convention with a universal membership of 198 parties and is the parent treaty of the 2015 Paris Agreement. The main aim of the Paris Agreement is to keep the global average temperature rise this century as close as possible to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The UNFCCC is also the parent treaty of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. The ultimate objective of all three agreements under the UNFCCC is to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that will prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system, in a time frame which allows ecosystems to adapt naturally and enables sustainable development.
Ghana, like many other countries, faces significant energy and climate challenges which are becoming increasingly evident, affecting various sectors of society, the economy and the environment. This situation necessitates immediate and comprehensive actions to address the challenges posed by climate change and ensure a sustainable future.
Again, the government of Ghana has launched the Energy transition plan.
As the world meets in UAE in November 2023 to deliberate on sustainability issues, the SPE Ghana Section together with its Partners; Africa Center for Energy Policy, Petroleum Holdings Development Corporation and Eco-Africa is organizing the Pre-COP 28 workshop to draw participants from various groups to deliberate and propose solutions on how Ghana can be take advantage of this global phenomena.
Join us as we deliberate on this very important topic to pave the way as Ghana prepares to participate in the COP 28 event in UAE.
